This man whose photograph appears above is a fraud but is occupying one of the highest offices in the education sector of Nigeria.
Akinolu Olaolu is currently the Rector of Igbajo Polytechnic but he is now subject of ridicule for presenting a certificate of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) which has turned out to be fake. Igbajo Polytechnic is owned by Igbajo community in Osun State.
According to reports, Olaolu commenced his academic career in the polytechnic when he was appointed Deputy Rector of the institution in December, 2015. Then the Rector was Tanimowo Oke.
Olaolu later claimed that he has a PhD in Economics from the University of Ibadan which led to his replacing Oke as the Rector of the polytechnic.
Olaolu sent tongues waging in the institution when he refused to present his PhD certificate. He only submitted a notification of result to obtain the job and pushed out Oke who only had a Master’s degree at that time.
The Registrar of the institution, Bisi Odebunmi was forced out of the institution when he formally demanded for Olaolu’s PhD certificate through an official memo.
The bubble burst for the fake PhD holder when an anonymous writer wrote a petition on the matter to the management of the institution. A panel was subsequently set up to investigate and the panel’s report indicated that Olaolu has no proof of his acclaimed PhD certificate.
The bubble further burst for the fake man when UI denied the PhD certificate he presented.
According to UI’s Director of Public Communications, Olatunji Oladejo who spoke with PUNCH newspaper on Monday, 4th June, 2018, the university has no record of the Rector being a PhD student in the institution. He stated further that the Rector’s purported matriculation number was not only fraudulent, he did not have any record in UI’s thesis bank.
Furthermore, the Rector’s purported thesis supervisor, Professor Ademola Ariyo said there was no record of Olaolu in the Department of Economics where he claimed to have bagged a doctorate degree.
Even the notification of result presented by the Rector has been disowned by UI.
The disgraced Rector is still insisting he possessed a PhD certificate issued by UI. He said he had just received the certificate from UI. He also claimed he could not showed it to reporters because it’s his personal copy.
The case is now with the police and Independent Corrupt Practices and other offences Commission (ICPC) and the two agencies have confirmed that they are investigating the matter.
