Today, Xmas Day, Wednesday, 25 December, 2019, the member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable James Abiodun Faleke is 60 years old.
The former Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area was born exactly today in 1959 in the Kabba province of the old Kwara state.
Right from his days as a student in the Abdul Azeez Attah Memorial College, Okene, the young Faleke has always displayed strong leadership qualities and uncanny sporting prowess which had always set him apart from his contemporaries.
He joined the school in Form 3 and displayed such a high level of leadership qualities that he was made the House Prefect for Ohimoge House, a position usually reserved for senor students.
The young James as a student was excellent in not one sport but in almost all sports. He played Volleyball and was the main Spiker for the school.
In 1978, he led Abdul Azeez Attah Memorial College to the final of the Soladoye Cup, a volleyball competition among secondary schools in the old Kwara State now comprising Kwara and some parts of Kogi State.
They lost 1-3 to Offa Grammar School which paraded Sunday James who later went on to represent Nigeria in volleyball for many years.
Young James also played handball not only for the school but also went ahead to represent the old Kwara state.
He was also good in Table Tennis and was among the best three in Abdul Azeez Attah Memorial College. He was also a good footballer.
James Abiodun Faleke was a very brilliant student and this was evidenced in the fact that he passed out with Distinction from the Kaduna Polytechnic for his Higher National Diploma (HND) certificate.
In Oyo State where he completed his compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, young James led the parade during the passing out parade and was one of the NYSC National Honour Award winner for his service year.
A golden fish that has no hiding place, Faleke’s leadership qualities were never in doubt when he joined politics.
As Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, his colleagues in the other councils reposed so much confidence in him that they unanimously elected the Chairman of Conference 57, their umbrella organisation.
Under him, the Conference 57 organised the maiden Colloquium to celebrate the birthday of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu when he clocked 57 in 2009.
As a member of the House of Representatives, he was named Chairman of the House Committee on Anti-Corruption in his first term, was Chairman of the Committee on Custom Services in his second term and now Chairman of the Committee on Finance.
At 60, James Abiodun Faleke’s leadership qualities have not reduced and he remains the committed, loyal and diligent party member he has always been. Happy birthday, Honourable James Abiodun Faleke.
