Faridah Wada Secures Foreign Support On Maternal Mortality

Founder of Faridah Wada Foundation and wife of Kogi State Governor, Mrs Faridah Ijeoma Wada has secured the support of Life for African Mothers to fight the scourge of maternal mortality in Nigeria.

Life for African Mothers, a Wales-based non-governmental organisation, primarily aims to help prevent maternal and child death in Africa.

Mrs Wada who recently returned from Cardiff, Wales where she signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the organisation disclosed this in Abuja at a parley with the executives of her oganisation and some members of the press.

Calling attention to the threat that maternal mortality poses to the society and its negative impact on the human reproductive life, Mrs Wada advised the government to deepen its policy on health care and improve action on reducing the rate of maternal mortality in Nigeria.

A recent report of the United Nations, it would be recalled, revealed that Nigeria ranks among countries with high mortality rate, with a ratio of 545 per 100,000 live births.

Speaking further, the founder said while non-governmental organisations such as hers and others continue to intervene strategically through sound policy suggestions and inputs on health matters and viable collaboration with international organisations like the Life for African Mothers, the Nigerian government should also intensify effort in the areas of exchange of ideas with its  committed non-state actors for quick attainment of the country’s aspirations in the health sector.

The Faridah Wada Foundation, through its partnership with the Welsh organisation, will be supplied with useful and life-changing materials such as mother and baby bundles, hospital equipment and necessary medications for Eclampsia and Post Partum Haemorrhage in support of actions against maternal mortality in Nigeria.

The foundation has, for a while, been involved in several initiatives which are geared towards poverty eradication, women empowerment, youth development programmes through sports, scholarship for under-privileged students and support materials for the disadvantaged and the needy in the society amongst others.
