Not less than 10 people were said to have been killed at Biu central market in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, when a bomb exploded through a suspected female suicide bomber in the middle of the market.
The explosion, which occurred on Thursday, at about 1:00 p.m, was said to be the first suicide bomb attack in the area, a situation which caused panic among the people, as residents scampered for safety.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that, the town was cordoned by both security operatives and members of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in Biu.
A resident of Biu town Mallam Isuwa Balami, told the Nigerian Tribune that the explosion happened about 100 metres from his shop.
He said the suicide bomber, dressed in black gown (Himar), was torn into pieces with her head, legs and hands flying in all directions.
According to him, the bodies of the people that were killed by the explosion were intact except for one losing his head and the other losing a leg or hand.
Soldiers and members of the civilian JTF within Biu town were said to have restricted movement in and out of Biu town as of the time of filing this report.
