The Federal Government has declared zero-tolerance to acts of indiscipline, abesence from duty post and negligence to duties and other misconducts, by officers and men at the Federal Marriage Registries across the country, adding that necessary disciplinary actions await violators of the directives.
The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Interior and Principal Registrar of Marriages in Nigeria, Dr. Shuaib Belgore gave this warning when he paid an on-the- spot assessment visit to Jos Federal Marriage Registry.
This warning is coming against the backdrop of an act of negligence of duties that happened at the Benin Federal Marriage Registry recently.
“I will reinterate that anybody caught engaging in corruption, absence from duty post, negligence to duties and such likes, will be made to face serious disciplinary actions,” Belgore said.
“You have to do your work, if you do well, you will be handsomely rewarded,” he emphasised.
The Principal Registrar of Marriages promised the support of the Federal Government to ensuring that the Jos Federal Marriage Registry performs appreaciative number of Marriages per week.
In her response, the Registrar in charge of the Marriage Registry, Dawam Barbara thanked the Permanent Secretary and his team for the visit and promised the commitment of officers to discharging their statutory duties effectively and efficiently at all times.
The Director of Citizenship and Business, Barr. Mrs. Soyinka-Onijala, Deputy Director Marriges. Mrs Kaze and other officials also accompanied the Permanent Secretary during the visit.
