A customary court II in Osogbo, Osun state has dissolved 16 years old marriage between a trader, Mr. Musibau Azeez; and his wife, Mutiyat after the latter informed the court that she got beaten up by Azeez for reprimanding one of their children.
Mutiyat, a trader told the court on Thursday that her husband encourages their four children in their stealing habit by failing to rebuke them.
She said she got the beatings of her life to the extent of having her hair shaved by Azeez for flogging one of their children who stole an item in their house.
According to her, “My husband will always beat me and stop me from beating our children whenever they steal in the house which makes them continue stealing.”
She also accused her husband of lack of care and responsibility and most importantly, lack of cooperation over the upbringing of their four children.
Mutiyat explained that her husband shaved her hair with a knife during a fight and even recently burnt all her clothes.
She thereby urged the court to dissolve the marriage because her husband had failed to listen to families and friends’ advice and refused to change.
But Azeez denied his wife’s claim of being irresponsible.
His words: “my wife is too aggressive and beats the children too severely which also makes me beat her in return. I can’t let her kill the children because they steal.”
He also added that he was comfortable with his wife’s decision to dissolve the marriage and appealed to the court to do so.
However, the president of the court,Chief Popoola Bolarinwa ordered the dissolution of the marriage with immediate effect.
