As part of its efforts to reduce the unceasing carnages on the Nigeria roads, the Osun State Command of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Thursday, 26th February, 2015 organised a sensitization programme for drivers of commercial vehicle in the state on how to handle speed limiting device and retro reflective tape introduced by the commission.
Sector Commander of FRSC in Osun State, southwest Nigeria, Mr Muhammad Husaini while speaking at the public enlightenment campaign noted that the initiative was part of strategies to reduce road crashes often caused by bad weather.
At the one day workshop help in Osogbo are members of the National Unioin of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, (RTEAN), Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria, and (MTUN).
Hisaini said while the speed limiting device is new, the reflective tapes has been in use for long by heavy duty vehicles but that it is now being re-introduced for commercial vehicles.
According to the FRSC boss, the retro reflective tape is an item that increases the visibility of vehicles during dark conditions and the speed limiter regulates and limits the speed of a vehicle and that he introduction of these items will help to reduce accidents.
He added that the speed limiting device would put drivers of commercial vehicles in check while driving on high ways.
He noted that the launching of these items was in response to the alarming spate of ghastly road traffic crashes especially after sunset. He charged transporters to embrace the initiative.
