Barring last-minute change of plan, the House of Representatives will tomorrow, Monday May 16, 2016, convene an emergency special session to debate the hike in the price of premium motor spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol, announced by the federal government on Wednesday, May 11.
Sources close to the leadership of the House told LEADERSHIP Sunday last night that the session would begin at 12pm, just a day before the National Assembly was billed to reconvene from a short recess.
Recall that Speaker Yakubu Dogara had on Thursday, assured Nigerians that the legislature would not allow the executive arm of government formulate any anti-people policy and that the Lower House will not allow Nigerians to suffer under the prevailing economic circumstances.
Tomorrow’s emergency and special session of the House is reminiscent of the Sunday January 8, 2012 session by the House in the 7th Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who is currently the governor of Sokoto State, after the announcement of removal of fuel subsidy by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
