GOtv Boxing Night: Organisers Promise Adequate Security

Boxing fans who wish to attend the fourth edition of the GOtv Boxing Night have been assured of adequate protection form harassment and intimidation in and around the Indoor Sports of the National Stadium in Lagos, venue of the event slated for 25 October.

Jenkins Alumona, Managing Director, Flykite Promotions, promoters of the event, fans have nothing to worry about when they come for the event. “We have made adequate arrangements to ensure that fans are not harassed. We have KSquare Security, an accomplished security firm and partners to the event, providing security. In addition, this edition will start earlier than the previous ones to ensure that it ends earlier for people to get home in good time,” Alumona said.

GOtv Boxing Night is a professional tourney featuring six fights.  It came into being as a way of arresting the decline of the sport through improved funding and better organisation. A bold hint of these objectives was delivered at the last edition when Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi won N1million for emerging the best boxer at the tournament. The cash prize was accompanied by the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy.

The best boxer on 25 October will also win the same amount, which the organisers said will offer more motivation for excellence in the ring.
Of the six fights lined up for the fourth edition of the event, the biggest is the one featuring Nigeria’s Isaac Ekpo, former Commonwealth champion, who will take on Jules Kabore of Burkina Faso in an international super middleweight challenge bout. Another big one is the national lightweight challenge bout between Fijabi, best boxer at the last edition, and Saheed “Happy Boy” Olayiwola.

Also Stanley “Edo Boy” Eribo will duel with Isiaka ” Easy Lion” Yusuf in a light welterweight challenge contest, while Pelumi “Haggler” will fight Jamiu “Naval Man” Olabode in welterweight challenge. West African featherweight champion, Waidi “Skoro” Usman will slug it out with Taofik “Taozon” Bisuga, while Otto “Joe Boy” Joseph will take on Nurudeen “Prince” Fatai in a lightweight challenge contest.

GOtv Boxing Night is sponsored by pay -TV company GOtv and supported by MultiChoice, SuperSport, KSquare Security, Custodian Life Assurance Limited, Complete Sports, Brilla FM, and Bond FM.
