Government Should Create Special Salary For Teachers – Adegbesan

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ijebu Ode local government branch, Comrade J. Olu Adegbesan has advised government to put enabling gazette in place that will give special attention to teachers in terms of Special Salary Scale.

Adegbesan, who spoke with The Gazelle News at Ijebu Ode Grammar School, Ijebu Ode venue of Teachers Day celebration in Ijebu Ode Ode local government area of Ogun state said the role of government in developing teachers is not well pronounced because there are lot of things to be done.

According to him, regular workshops and seminar, regular payment of salaries and allowances and most importantly, putting enabling gazette in place that will give special attention to teachers in terms of special salary scale are necessary to improve the performance of teachers.

He noted that teachers are being relegated to the background when educational policies are being made which ought not to be and he advised government to wake up and address the issue as it will go a long way in motivating the teachers for better performance.

Adegbesan, urged teachers to dedicate themselves to the teaching profession and advised parents to come on board in partnering with teachers and government in making sure enabling environment is created for teachers to be able to perform their primary assignment as no nation can rise above the level of her teachers.
