A group, the Concerned Citizens of Ilara in Epe Division of Lagos State has raised alarm over the imposition of an indicted former chairman of Lagos State Inland Revenue Service (LIRS), Prince Olufolarin Kayode Ogunsanwo as Alara of Ilara designate.
The group in a press statement jointly signed by the president of the group, Prince Fatai Amoda and the Secretary, Prince Ganiu Adesanya appealed to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu to refrain from confirming Prince Ogunsanwo as the new Alara of Ilara for lacking credibility and integrity expected of an oba designate.
The group alleged that Prince Ogunsanwo was not only sacked as boss of LIRS but forced to go on compulsory retirement after being fingered in a N4.2billion fraud that rocked the revenue service in his 11 months tenure in office.
Beside, the concerned group also alleged that the beleaguered former LIRS boss was not the choice of the Oracle and the kingmakers of the ancient town.
They noted that Prince Ogunsanwo was being propped up for the exalted throne of Ilara by Chief Stephen Bakare, the Chairman of Oluwalogbon Motors who allegedly coerced the kingmakers to drop their initial choice of oba-elect for the embattled Ogunsanwo.
They argued that it would amount to a big embarrassment on the ancient town and indeed the Lagos State to allow an unpopular candidate to mount the throne of Alara.
For peace and tranquility to reign in the ancient, the group enjoined the authorities of Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs and by extension Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu to allow the choice of the the kingmakers and indeed the dictates of customs and tradition of the ancient community to prevail in the choice of the new Alara as it was done in the past.
