An anti-rape group, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Rescue Team (DSVTR) has urged the Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Oluwole Edgal to join hands in the fight against domestic and sexual violence across the state.
The group made the call during a courtesy visit to the police headquarters, Lagos command on Wednesday.
The team from DSVTR sought for support of the CP in combating domestic violence in the state urging police officers to stand guard and bring to book any form of violence in the state most especially against women.
“We will not hesitate to make report of any case of violence to the Commissioner of Police as long as we can trust the police force in delivering adequate support,” the group assured.
In his response, CP Edgal advised the group to report any case of violence directly to the police force as the security agency will not hesitate in responding to such criminal act.
“All case of violence must be reported to the police force and we will make sure justice is adequately pursued without delay from any police officer from the senior officers to the rank and files across the state. Meanwhile, if any police officer is found guilty of corruption in combating any violent crime, the police force through the Inspector General of Police (IGP) will not be slack to deal with such officer, ” he said
Edgal said he has mandated all the Divisional Police Officers to hit the ground running by bringing to book and take any case of domestic violence as a sensitive case that needs special attention.
In the same vein, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, (LSSTF) has also donated seven brand new patrol vehicles and other security equipment in operational support to the state command to enhance its operation in contending crime to the barest minimum in Lagos as one of the cosmopolitan state in Africa.
