With massive presence of people from across the country to play one part or the other in the Osun state governorship election slated for Saturday, August 9, 2014, commercial activities in the have started to receive a boost in the major towns in the state.
For the past one week, Osogbo, the capital of the state and its adjourning towns have witnessed unprecedented presence of security agencies, accredited local and international observers, journalists among other people from all over the country.
Also, the massive presence of party supporters from other states in the country, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), local as well as foreign journalists has started to have positive impacts on the local business activities, as the local economy received a boost.
With less than 42 hours to the eagerly awaited election, the presence of these people have increased from what obtains on Monday, 4th August, 2014 when INEC officials and security operatives started arriving.
Their presence is already having positive impacts on the largely civil servant state, as transportation, eateries and restaurants operators are making brisk businesses.
Hospitality business particularly hotel operators seem to be the sector benefiting the most as virtually all the hotels, guest houses, motels and suites have been fully booked by the visitors.
The manager of Homeland Hotel and Suites along Ilobu road in Osogbo,Mr. Gabriel Oginni, told our correspondent in an exclusive interview that they have never had it so good like now, in terms of patronage.
Also speaking, a commercial motorcycle operator who simply identified himself as Afeez in Osogbo confessed that Saturday’s election which ushered in heavy presence of visitors in the state has been financially helpful.
