Nigeria’s main opposition party has said its arrested security chief, Edeh Abutu, is being framed for gunrunning.
Abutu, who is head of the party’s security for Dekina Local Govt. area of Kogi state, is currently detained for his alleged offence.
Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says the party believes Abutu is “under torture” in detention.
He further claims that the accused previouslyfaced arrest threats, but wouldn’t name who was behind such.
Ologbondiyan said he received reports that thugs invaded Abutu’s residence and shot indiscriminately before taking him away.
“The PDP is also aware of plots to frame-up other PDP leaders with allegations of illegal possession of firearm, sponsoring of violence and training of thugs, among others as an attempt to intimidate the citizens,” he said.
The PDP is facing the ruling party in the forthcoming governorship poll in Kogi State.
The opposition party said it’s capable of stopping the re-election of the incumbent, Yahaya Bello.
