A right organisation, Campaign Against Corrupt Nigerians (CACN) has urged former governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwumi Ambode to honour the invitation sent to him by the State House of Assembly saying the invitation is normal and not out of place. The group’s advice was contained in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Adeosun Adekanye, who stated that, “the invitation was even long overdue.”
The State House of Assembly invited the former governor to appear before it on Wednesday to shed more lights on certain issues concerning his administration’s financial activities between 2015 and 2019.
Adekanye said, his members were fully in support of the invitation because it was democratic and constitutionally permissible for the House to summon individuals or groups to explain some certain vexatious matters that are of public interest.
The Youth Coordinator believed that the invitation was genuine and not to be seen as a witch hunting ploy to rope anybody but a window to put some confusing matters straight, reminding that it was the standard norm in the civilized world.
He also suspected that the invitation was as a result of preasure being piled on the Legislative House by some organizations clamouring for the probe of the immediate past administration with a view to clarifying some vexatious matters concerning the state finances and issues under it.
The group even went a step further by suggesting that the EFCC, ICPC and other relevant anti-corruption agencies in the country, should intervene to ensure that the state money being illegally kept anywhere is retrieved back to the state cover.
Against the forgone, Adekanye’s members are of the belief that, “this type of investigation, if imbibed in national policy, all public officers would always be cautious in the way they would handle state finances while in government.”
