Governor of Osun State, southwest Nigeria, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state’s governorship election slated for August 9 has declared that he was not afraid of arrest by the police ahead of the poll.
The governor said this on Monday, 21st July, 2014 following alleged plot by the leadership of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and the police to effect arrest of some chieftains of All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the governorship election.
Addressing mammoth crowd at the mega rally held at Unity High School, Ejigbo, Governor Aregbesola said that all the chieftains of APC in the state are ready for police arrest adding that the arrest of the leaders of the party will not deter people from casting their votes for the party.
Aregbesola charged the people of the state to ensure that they cast their votes even if he was arrested by the police saying that his arrest is meaningless without their votes.
He also called on the people not to be intimidated by the threat of arrest by the police, stressing that “we are available for police arrest if that is what the PDP led federal government want to do with the deployment of heavy soldiers and other security operatives to the state”.
According to him, “If I’m arrested, my only charge to you is that don’t be afraid. Just go out and cast your vote. Police arrest is meaningless. We are ready for them. We are not running away. We are available and we are ready to lead our people to the promised land”.
Governor Aregbesola said that his administration has just kicked off its ignition and it will not stop until 2018 when his government will ensure that all dilapidated schools are no more and poverty vanished in the state.
He explained that his government has laid a good foundation adding that it was the major reason why he would not want the good work to stop abruptly.
Aregbesola stated that the state had been under the PDP government for seven and half years and nothing was done to move the state forward.
He debunked the insinuation that his administration was planning to hike fees of private schools in the state adding that all roads under construction would be completed in the second term.
The Governor therefore admonished people of the state without Permanent Voter Cards to go and collect them saying that without it they would not be able to cast their votes.
He also charged them to go and check their names on the voter’s register pasted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in their local government councils so as to make necessary correction if there is need for it.
Earlier, Governor Abiola Ajimobi had enjoined the people of the state to ensure that they return Governor Rauf Aregbesola to office for the completion of the on-going infrastructure and developmental projects.
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Nojeem Sallam said that all roads have been blocked against the opposition saying that all their tricks to deceive the people of the state with contaminated rice and kerosene have failed.
He said that there is no way for the PDP to rig the coming election in the state saying that Osun is not like Ekiti.
