Preparations are in top gear by the Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (IIFP), the pioneer Islamic Finance Institution in Nigeria to hold its 2021 Annual Stakeholders' Conference and Induction of new members. The two-day event will hold on Wednesday, 15 December, and Thursday, 16 December, 2021 at Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos, Akoka Yaba. The Founder and President of the institute, Dr Tajudeen Yusuf said the conference will discuss the theme, "Weathering the Storms in the Financial Ecosystem: The Cutting Edge of Islamic Finance", a topic selected in response to the Islamic financial industry's various activities that have positive and negative impacts on the overall impact growth and development of the industry. The Keynote Speaker for this year's conference edition is Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, Minister for Finance, Budget and National Planning. Dr Yusuf added that the conference will feature over 20 prominent speakers representing 15 Islamic finance institutions, private and public representatives and Islamic finance stakeholders. The two-day conference promises to chart a new path for the Islamic Finance Industry in Nigeria. Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, will be the event's Chief Host while Dr. Oluremi Nurudeen Olaleye, Rector, Lagos State Polytechnic, will deliver the Keynote Address for the new members' induction ceremony. The event will engage stakeholders across six key sectors of Islamic finance, six-panel sessions with an in-depth discussion around Islamic Banking, Takaful (Islamic Insurance), Maqasidu Shariah, WAQF (Islamic social finance), Islamic Capital Market as well as Islamic fintech evolution.
Some of the confirmed speakers include: Professor Abdur Rasaq Alaro, FRACE, CBN; Usman Hassan, MD/CEO, Jaiz Bank Plc.; Norfadelizan Abdul Rahman - MD/CEO, Taj Bank Ltd; and Hajjia Halima Buba, MD/CEO Suntrust Bank Limited.
Others include: Kafilat Araoye, MD/CEO, Lotus Bank Limited; Mrs. Thaibat Adeniran, MD/CEO Hilal Takaful Nigeria Limited; Ibrahim Usman Shehu, MD/CEO Jaiz Takaful Plc; Ismael Ayanlere, Head Retail, Noor Takaful Limited; and Dr. Jubril Salaudeen, Director, Nungu Business School. The induction of the newly qualified Islamic Finance professionals and upgrade from Associate to Fellow for some members will hold on the event's second and final day. The event will serve as an avenue for participants to gain from the experience and knowledge of the key players in the industry as they discuss critical issues in the Islamic Finance industry. Since its establishment in 2014, the institute has carried out annual Stakeholders engagements, Continuous Professional Development (CPD), seminars etc. As part of its annual tradition, the induction of qualified members into the Islamic finance industry is held to usher in Islamic Finance practitioners into the Islamic Finance space to bridge the manpower gap in the industry.
