Ijebu Ode Under Siege: Kashamu’s Largesse Creates War Between Rival Cult Groups; Four People Killed

A man, Olamilekan Adeoye aka Bottle, and three cult members of the Eye Confraternity have been reported killed in the ongoing clash between Aiye and Eiye confraternities in Ijebu Ode area of Ogun state, southwest Nigeria.

The alleged cause of the fight was said to be the sharing of largesse given to the boys by the financier of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state, Prince Buruji Kashamu on Saturday, 26th April, 2014 when some All Progressives Congress (APC) members publicly decamped to the party in Ogun state.

Prior to the day the money was given, it was reliably gathered that there have been grudges between members of the rival cult groups and when the money was given out, one of the factions was said to have been unduly favoured than the other in the sharing formula.

Olamilekan was killed at Ita Ale area of Ijebu Ode. According to eye witness, he was said to have heard sound of gunshots and decided to run for his dear life as people in the area were scampering for safety but one of the boys shot him in the chest and he died on the spot.

Also, it was gathered that three Eye cult members were killed.

According to reports, one was killed at the Express, along Ejinrin road, another in front of 911 Lounges and Bar, Adeola Road, Ijebu Ode while the third one was killed at Olisa Street, Ijebu Ode.

Members of the groups were also said to have engaged themselves in a shoot on sight around Oke Street, beside Ijebu Ode Grammar, Ijebu Ode on Wednesday, 30th April, 2014.

According to reports, members of the Eiye fraternity have vowed to retaliate the killing of their members. As at the time of writing this report, there palpable tension in Ijebu Ode with the threat of the Eye cult members to avenge the death of their colleagues creating fear among residents.
