The Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area of Lagos State has provided free start up tools to 20 beneficiaries of its recently concluded free training for unemployed residents of the area on event decoration.
The Sole Administrator of the council, Aremo Abdul Adewale, during the programme held at the council secretariat, stated that the council embarked on the training in order to reduce unemployment problem in the council area.
Aremo Adewale also added that another major reason for embarking on the training is to ensure that the council key into Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s government of inclusion, particularly at the grassroots.
The council chief commended all the 40 beneficiaries of the training for showing commitment and seriousness throughout the five days of the training. He urged them to use the skills and knowledge acquired during the training to turn themselves to job providers and not job seekers.
Aremo Adewale further stated that this is not the first time his administration would be empowering residents, adding that in 2016,the council provided free training for 220 residents on five different vocations.
The Sole Administrator commended Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode for setting the pace in the effort to tackle unemployment and create wealth among lagosians, through the Lagos State Unemployment Trust Fund Scheme and other avenues.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke at the event commended the sole administrator for the initiative.
Odekunle Nike, in her words,said “initially I thought it was going to be a waste of time, but I was proved wrong. I am now fully armed with the knowledge in event decoration and with the tools provided for me by the council, my worries about how to survive are gone forever.”
The event was attended by management staff of the council ,led by the Head of Administration, Mrs Omoloju Comfort, Chairman of the umbrella body of all community development associations in the council area, Pa Solomon Jejelola and the Divisional Police Officer of Ketu police station, ASP Akpan.
