After completing the impeachment of the Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Engineer Fatai Oyesanya, on Tuesday, 19th August, 2014, the councillors have invited the Vice Chairman of the council, Mrs Bolanle Dada Onikosi to be sworn-in as the substantive chairman of the council.
The Vice Chairman was invited on Wednesday, 20th August, 2014 through a letter sent to her office. According to the letter, the Vice Chairman is expected to be sworn-in on Thursday, 21st August, 2014 (today).
One of the councillors told thegazellenews.com that the council cannot and would not be left in a limbo hence the need for the Vice Chairman to take over after the impeachment of the Chairman.
“It is the constitutional provision hence we have invited the Vice Chairman for swearing-in today, Thursday, 21st August, 2014,” the councillor told thegazellenews.com early Thursday, 21st August, 2014.
Asked what will happen if the Vice Chairman declined to take over, he said the other option will be to swear in the Leader of the Legislative Arm of the council, in this case, Owolabi Taiwo.
Oyesanya was impeached by all the seven elected councillors in the council on Tuesday, 19th August, 2014 based on allegations such as: embezzlement, misappropriation and threat to public peace among other offences.
