Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State has been adjudged to have the best Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) drive in 2013.
The council has thus been awarded N500,000 and two motorcycles while the most senior rate officer in the LG will be considered for overseas training by the state government.
The state Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Barrister Paul Omotoso, who made this known in Ado Ekiti during the monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) meeting, reiterated the resolve of the present administration to rewarding hard work and efficiency.
Omotoso said that Ekiti South West Local Government considered to be the second best LG in revenue drive was given two motorcycles while Ido/Osi LG was given one motorcycle as the third best.
The Commissioner charged officers in the revenue collection department to improve on their IGR drive, emphasising that the state and local government cannot continue to depend on the meagre resources from the federal allocations for development.
He said that the Fayemi led administration was too much in a hurry to develop all the nooks and crannies of the state, stressing that while efficiency and positive results would be continually rewarded, laziness and lacklustre results would be frowned on.
Barrister Omotoso disclosed the five local government workers were currently undergoing overseas training while five others will proceed on similar training in the next two weeks.
He charged the workers to key into government’s development drive, stressing that they stand to benefit a lot while developing their communities.
