There are growing fear over the governorship ambition of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Tambuwwal is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Sokoto State.
Investigation revealed that the chances of Tambuwwal succeeding incumbent governor, Alhaji Alliyu Wamakko is getting dimmer not to the rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) popularity but due to the internal crisis in the party occassioned by alleged irregularities in the primaries conducted by the party to pick its candidates for the coming elections.
Tambuwal who was declared flag bearer of his party, All Progressive Congress (APC), has been in the middle of a legal battle over irregularities at the governorship primaries.
Amongst alleged gross misconducts in the governorship primary election of December 4, 2014 that Tambuwal is answering a case for at the Federal High Court, Abuja are allegations that the officials of the Sokoto State Government as well as officials of APC denied all other aspirants except Animu Tambuwal access to the delegates.
Another allegation was that the screening of delegates on the day of the primaries was not done between the stipulated hours of 8am and 12 noon and the list of the delegates as issued by the national secretariat of APC was not used in the conduct of the said primary of December 4, 2014.
It was also alleged that without hiding or afraid of the cause of law, on the very day of election, Sokoto State officials and that of local governments in the state as well as members of the state House of Assembly openly canvassed for votes for Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal.
Also, in the open glare of spectators and all present at those present, voting was not conducted in secret ballot as stipulated in the Guidelines of APC (the first defendant), instead, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal had his name written on ballot papers and those papers were freely distributed to delegates at the Ginginya Stadium, Sokoto, venue of the primaries election.
“It turned out that both accredited delegates and even non-delegates were issued with already filled ballot papers with the name of Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal,” Tambuwwal’s opponents said.
As it is, in spite of the fact that the case has not been decided, it has been causing disaffection among members of the party some of whom are accusing Wamakko of imposing his will alone on the party.
Investigation revealed further that there have been recent defection to rival PDP due to the present crisis in Sokoto APC and this has been causing panic in the Tambuwwal camp.
