Saturday, 11th July, 2015, marks the 40th birthday anniversary of former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osun State, Alhaji Kazeem Ademola Adio, a prince of the historic town of Iwo, in Iwo Local Government Area of the State of Virtuous People.
For the young man, it is indeed an event of celebration by giving thanks to God who has preserved his life and guide and guard him in his political and professional sojourn do far.
“When one realise that there are many of one’s mates who are no more, there many who are younger than me who have died, and some who are older but have not been given the privilege and grace of achievements I have been to achieve, I have to express sincere appreciation to Almighty Allah for His mercies on me and my entire household,” the celebrator told thegazellenews.com in a chat.
A humble and forward looking young man, Kazeem Adio’s rise through the ladder of political leadership has been phenomenal, thanks to his versatility, diligence and ability to deliver.
Apart from being a politician of repute, Adio is a teacher, public administrator, project manager and business analyst who has distinguished himself in all his chosen endeavours, a typical example of someone you can call Jack of all trades, master of all.
Adio was educated at the famous CMS Grammar School, Bariga Lagos, passing out in flying colours in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) before being admitted into Bayero University, Kano bagging a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1998.
Adio obtained Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Ilorin in 2001 then traveled to the United Kingdom.
In UK, he obtained a Master of Science degree in International Marketing Management from the University of East London in 2004. In 2005, he bagged a certificate in Health and Social Care from the Amonet Healthcare Training Institute, United Kingdom; and a Level 2 Award certificate in Security from the National Open College Network, United Kingdom in 2006 among others.
In 2011, he bagged United Nations Institute for Training and Reseach (UNitar) certificate
in International Negotiation: Practical Skills and Techniques while in 2012, he obtained a certificate in Applying the Principles of Sustainable Development Diplomacy from the Sustainability Challenge Foundation, Tilburg University, Netherlands.
Educationally, Kazeem Adio was more than well prepared for assignments entrusted on his young but indeed strong shoulders.
He started his professional career at Eleme Petro-chemicals Plc, Port Harcourt as an audit assistant as a youth corps member between officer July 1999 and June 2000.
He was a project supervisor with Princadaz Nigeria Limited, Lagos between July 2000 and September 2002 before traveling to the United Kingdom.
In UK, he was a project support officer with the World Bank (University of East London) between January 2004 and December 2004; between January 2005 and November 2005, he was business analyst cum project coordinator for Dab Consulting Limited, United Kingdom; was business and information and communication technology (ICT) lecturer at Newham College of Further Education, London, between November 2005 and June 2007; and between July 2007 and August 2007, he was project coordinator and trainer for Centre for Innovation and Partnerships (CIPS), London.
It was while working for CIPS that he had to return home to join the development train of his state, Osun.
It should be noted that Adio was the pioneer Commissioner for Environment in Osun State, an office he held between August 2007 and February 2010.
At the age of 32 then, he was perhaps the youngest ever commissioner in the history of the state.
In February 2010, seeing the diligent and himble manner he implements assignment given to him, he was elevated to the prestigious position of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
At the relatively young age of 34, he became the youngest ever to hold the office in the history of the state and one of the youngest in Nigeria to occupy the prestigious office.
He held the position until November 2010 when a court decision brought in a new government in the state and since then he has gone into private business practice.
While in government, he had undertaken the following international assignments on behalf of government: Leader of delegation (Amir Hajj) to Saudi Arabia, Osun State pilgrims to Hajj 2010; Leader of delegation to Israel, AMAL Group/Skill G in collaboration with Osun State on Technical Education, 2010; member, Osun State delegation to Philadelphia, United States of America (USA), a meeting at Centre for Black Culture and International understanding on International Labour Relations, 2010; Leader of delegation to Seattle, Washington, USA, toward boosting trade relations between Osun/Kwara state, Nigeria and the United States of America; and member, Osun State delegation to Ghana Conference on Home-grown School Feeding Programme.
Other assignments include: Chairman, Osun State Micro-credit Agency; Chairman, Osun State Committee on Signage and Outdoor Advertisement Control; Chairman, Osun State Committee on Emission Control; Chairman, Osun State Committee on Forestry Reforms; Chairman, Disengagement Committee of Osun State from LAUTECH University, Ogbomosho; Chairman, Osun State UNDP Project; Chairman, Osun State Committee on Climate Change; and Chairman, Osun State Action Committee on Aids (SACA)
These assignments have led to the following initiatives from him: amendment of forestry law; creation of climate change unit; creation of emission control unit; creation of signage and outdoor advertisement control unit; public/private partnership on beatification, waste and environmental protection; first policy on environment in Osun State; and Osun State environmental management bill.
