Less than a week after commissioning blocks of classrooms in two primary schools, the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Afolabi Sofola has again made a firm statement of his commitment to providing infrastructure development to the local government area with the commissioning of three roads at Ojota and Mende, on Tuesday, 26 January, 2021 reports The Gazelle News.com.
Sofola commissioned link road from Kogberegbe street to Ojota New Garage, Okuneye Okugade Street, Mende and Kajola Street also at Mende Maryland. The roads are among a wide range of projects the council chairman is planning to commission before the end of his tenure later this year.
While declaring the road formally open for public use, Sofola urged the members of the public to make proper use of the roads and desist from acts that could bring about their swift dilapidation such as channelling of domestic waste water over it, making of bonfire and erection of illegal structures.
The council chairman who was represented at the commissioning by the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Abayomi Ologbonori and the Leader of Kosofe Legislative Council, Hon. Onayemi Olumide County, stated that the construction and rehabilitation of the roads are in fulfilment of his campaign promise to the people of the areas to provide durable and accessible roads in all the wards of the local government for free-flow of vehicular movements before the end of his tenure.
County who is equally the councillor representing Ward D Mende where Okuneye Okugade and Kajola streets were commissioned, praised the council chairman for the construction of the roads in his ward which he said was in fulfilment of the statement he made to them the councillors of at least constructing seven roads in the local government a year.
He averred that the council chairman has indeed fulfilled his campaign promise; adding that Okuneye Okungade street used to be in a state of total disrepair before its construction.
Similarly, some residents living within the communities of the new roads have expressed delight over the new state of their streets.
Mr. Kuku Abiola Jimoh, a resident living on Kajola Street who also doubles as the CDA Chairman of the community and CDC secretary of Kosofe Local Government Area, thanked Hon. Afolabi Sofola and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the construction of the street.
While stating that Kajola street is an important access road linking other streets in the community, he assured that the CDA would ensure its proper maintenance from domestic and commercial activities prejudicial to its good state.
So also Mrs. Omotanwa Ishola expressed delight at the new state of Kajola street, thanking the council chairman for a job well done.
She noted that unlike before the road is now accessible as there are free-flow of vehicular and human movements, and that rain water freely flow into the drainages.
The Public Relation Officer of the host community, Ifelodun CDA, Mr. Adedeji Olumide Ogunbowale stated that the rehabilitation of the road has led to a boost in commercial activities in the area as many vehicles now ply the street.
On Okuneye Okugade street, an elderly woman, Mrs. Kehinde Sanni praised the council chairman for the construction of the road describing it as a good development in the area.
She however appealed to the local government authorities to do bumps on the road in order to curtail excessive speeding by motorists.
While community elder, Mr. Abiodun Adebambo, residing in the area of Kogbere/Ojota new garage, thanked the present local government administration of Hon. Sofola for coming to the aid of the community to construct the link road for easy accessibility and connectivity of areas in and out of Ojota unlike its neglect before.
Present at the events are: the LG’s Head of Administration, Mr. MBS Arole; the Supervisor for Agric, Youth, Sports and Rural Development, Hon. Oyeyemi Oyetayo; and Kosofe NULGE Chairman, Mr. Ade Orababa.
