The Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party, Comrade Niyi Osoba, has said that the party belongs to the workers.

According to him, it was the Labour Movement under Comrade Adams Oshiomole that formed Labour Party having found out that there is no political party in Nigeria that has a very fundamental ideology that inculcate the interest of the workers noting further that the executive members of the party are agents of the trade unions.

Osoba said in appreciation of the ownership of the party by the trade unions, the leader of the party in Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and members of the executive committee led by Comrade Niyi Osoba have resolved to establish Ministry of Labour and Productivity and also, ensure that workers are incorporated in elective and appointment positions in the state and local governments if the party emerges the winner of the coming general elections in Ogun state.

Osoba who gave this hint while answering questions from members of Labour Political Committee set up by Nigeria Labour Congress as the 2015 general elections draw nearer laments why Comrade Adams Oshiomole did not contest under the platform of Labour Party and urged veterans in the trade union movement including Comrade Adams Oshiomole and all workers to embrace Labour party.

He also used the opportunity to invite members of the Labour Political Commission to join the campaign train of Labour Party so as to nurture the baby of the trade unions to fruition.

According to him, there is no faction in Ogun state chapter of the party.

“Labour Party is not factionalized, what happened was just a misunderstanding and to God be the glory, the court case by Simeon, Oginni and Arabanbi has been withdrawn,” he explained.

Members of the executive committee are presently embarking on sensitization training on INEC registration and election process all through the state.

The LP Chairman appreciated the Labour Political Commission for nominating him and 21 others to serve as executive committee members of Labour Party at the state and local government levels in line with the constitution of the party and seek for the unflinching support of the workers in the state as the 2015 general elections draw nearer to unseat the incumbent governor so that life can be better for all and sundry .

“Labour Party will not retrench workers in the state rather our government will employ more and make their well being a priority,” he said.

The Chairman of the Labour Political Commission, Comrade Steve Modupe acknowledge the fact that Labour Party was established by the workers of Nigeria and therefore thanked the party for honouring their invitation.

It would be recalled that over 50,000 civil servants were employed by the government of Otunba Gbenga Daniel whom the workers in the state referred to as the workers’ most friendly governor.

“Also, OGD appointed four members of Nigeria Labour Congress as consultants (cabinet rank) while students and trade union activists were also given various appointments,” Modupe said.
