The Lagos State government says it has an eye to generate 5megawatts of energy from waste.
The information comes just as state waste management agency informs that Olusosun and Solous dumpsters would be shut to further public use.
Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, managing director, Lagos State Waster Management Authority, LAWMA,said on Saturday that the landfills would now beused as waste treatment centres.
He explained that increased human activities around the dumpstersmade it necessary that they be decommissioned.
More so, Gbadegesin said government’s ‘short and long-term strategies will see Kesse Landfill in Badagry reactivated, and citing of more material recovery facilities, incineration plants, and transfer loading stations.
He said more recycling centres will be built indifferent areas of the state.
Gbadegesin also urged citizens to endeavour to sort out their waste before disposing them off, while reminding that improper waste disposal has consequences for violators.
