The Lagos state House of Assembly has directed the state Commissioner of Police Umar Manko to immediately disband the Community Police Youth Vanguard set up by the Area E Police Command under the watch of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP, Dan Okoro.
Just as it described as illegal the setting up of the group, the House of Assembly said activities of members of the group is tantamount to a parallel government to undermine local administration in the area.
The House of Assembly in its outcome of investigation following petition by the council authority said the establishment of the group breached legal provisions establishing community policing in Lagos with the use of Lagos State seal without authorization.
The House of Assembly ad-hoc committee set up by the state Assembly headed by the Chief Whip, Rasaq Balagun also recommended that the governor should broker peace between the council chairman and the Area E Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dan Okoro for peace to return to the council area.
It would be recalled that the council Chairman had in a petition to the Lagos Assembly in May alleged nefarious activities in Festac town against the CPYV urging the Assembly to investigate activities of its members.
According to the Chairman of the Assembly ad-hoc committee, Rasak Balogun, the committee had done all necessary to prevent the group from unleashing terror in the community and becoming political opponents to undermine security in the state.
The House of Assembly fact finding committee also called on the Commissioner of Police to reinstate the police orderly withdrawn from the council chairman about three months ago.
