Lagos State Government will today, Wednesday, 10th December, 2014 join the rest of the world to mark the annual Human Rights Day.
The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, who disclosed this, stated that the theme of this year’s celebration is ‘The Rights of the Child’ and the event will take place at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa.
The Commissioner explained that Human Right’s Day was set aside by the United Nations (UN) as an annual event to celebrate the fundamental proposition in the Universal Declaration that each person, everywhere, at all times is entitled to his/her fundamental human rights.
While emphasizing that human rights bind us together as a global community with the same ideals and values, he implored Lagosians to join in the celebration of the day observed by the international community every year on December 10 in commemoration of the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Ipaye disclosed that some of the highlights for this year’s celebration include essay competition for private and public schools, and a keynote address by the Guest of Honour, Mrs. Funmi Falana on “The Right of the Child”.
