Suspected petrol thieves have blown up the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline in Arepo, in the outskirt of Lagos state.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the incident occurred at about 5.20am yesterday morning (today).
Heavy smoke billowed around the enviornment as fire fighters battled to put off the fire.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the Public Relations Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) South West said the incident was caused heavy explosion.
He said NNPC fire fighters mobilised quickly to contain the fire.
Meanwhile, petroleum product supply from that point has been shut as valves of the pipeline have been locked to prevent further fire. Farinloye, however, confirmed that the fire has been successfully put off.
