A director of LASACO Assurance Plc, Akin Doherty, recently escaped being abducted by people posing as officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), reports The Gazelle News.com.
Three men posing as EFCC officials stormed an estate in Victoria Island to abduct the LASACO director in the name of being arrested by the anti-crime agency.
Doherty was however, saved by the residents of the estate who accosted the suspects wondering how they could Invade the estate in the name of arrest without any warrant or invite him to their office.
The trio: Babatunde Oyesanmi, Austine Ofuani and David Olusoji were later arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team and they confessed that indeed they posed as EFCC officials in order to abduct Doherty.
They were subsequently charged with conspiracy, impersonation and fraud and arraigned at the Lagos State Magistrates Court in Ogba.
The presiding Magistrate, E Kubeinje admitted the suspects to bail in the sum of N100,000 each and adjourned for trial after the suspects had pleaded not guilty.
However, the matter had to be adjourned further to 27 April, 2021 when hearing could not hold on the earlier adjourned date due to Covid-19 protocols put in place by the state government.
