Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development led by the Chairman, Hon. Setonji David have commended the state Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode; and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa over various developmental projects across the state.
The lawmakers gave the commendation during a 3-day oversight function to the project sites under construction by the state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
They stated that the duo of Ambode and Obasa in executing the provisions in the Y2017 budget to the letter have promoted monumental infrastructure renewal and development across the state.
This stride, according to them, has further positioned Lagos as one of Africa’s largest economies while realizing the mega city status for the state.
Hon. Setonji said the synergy between the Legislature and the Executive has translated into unprecedented infrastructure development in the state.
The Engineer turned lawmaker said he is putting his over 20years of experience as an engineer with the state government to assess the quality of the projects and made bold to say that the on-going projects under his purview are value for money and indeed it is value for tax payers’ money.
Hon. Setonji, while giving an overview on projects inspected, said the government should spread the projects across the five divisions of the state serving as the pride for all Lagosians especially in the euphoria of the Lagos @ 50 celebrations.
The projects visited include: construction of sawmill at Agbowa in Ikosi Ejirin LCDA which is meant for the relocation of sawmillers from Oko Baba and construction of 48 luxury flats at Isale Gangan – Phase I & II.
He however advised that the Isale Gangan pilot scheme be replicated in all the five divisions of the state without compromising standard. He added that the link roads to both projects be constructed for ease access.
Hon. Victor Akande representing Ojo Constituency I commented only on the sawmill site saying it’s beyond excellence.
Another member of the Committee, Hon. Jude Idimogu, representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, expressed pleasure at the quality of work done and the rate at which the contractors are working to meet up with Lagos at 50 celebration.
He therefore implored that the pilot scheme be well managed so that it serve as a good signal to other people in the community to give up their land to the government for such scheme.
Hon. Idimogu said by this he meant that “if the former residents of the acquired land are well settled, then more volunteers will show enthusiasm to donate their land for such projects”.
The committee members also inspected the Lagos State Urban Renewal Authority (LASURA) shops in Lagos Island which the Committee complained about revenue accruable not enough as expected thereby directing officials of LASURA to submit the list of shops at Idumota.
The Committee also discovered that the construction of Computer Village at Kotangowa market in Agbado-Oke Odo Local Council Development Area is yet to take-off due to some hiccups caused by Alimosho Local Government.
The Ag. Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL P. I Adenuga and the General Manager LASURA, Lateef Sholebo and their team conducted the committee members round the projects.
