For sneaking into the apartment of a married woman with the mindset of stealing, a 22-year-old man, Ajetomobi Clement, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Ajetomobi, who was docked before Magistrate A. Olowolagba of a magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, capital of Osun State, southwest Nigeria was charged with a count of attempted stealing.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Solomon Oladele while narrating the fact of the matter to the court during the hearing on Monday, 28th April, 2014 said Ajetomobi on Sunday, 27th April, 2014 around 6:35am unlawfully sneaked into the apartment of one Mrs Balogun Fatimoh at Oke-Tunji street, Alekuwodo area of Osogbo.
The prosecutor said the convict was caught red-handed by a neighbour of Mrs. Fatimoh who raised alarm before some youths of the neighbourhood gathered and chased Ajetomobi.
When he was nabbed by the youths, Mrs. Fatimoh was said to have intervened and pleaded with the youths who had wanted to carry out jungle justice on him to take him to the police station.
Mrs Fatimoh told the police that when Ajetomobi sneaked to her apartment, he did not know that she was inside the bedroom preparing for that day’s activities.
However, Inspector Oladele argued that Ajetomobi had committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 508 of the Criminal Code Cap.34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun state of Nigeria 2003.
Ajetomobi pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted stealing pressed against him and his counsel, Mrs Nnenna Ngwu prayed the court to be lenient in sentencing her client adding that he was a first offender and had learnt his lessons.
Magistrate Olowolagba, however sentenced Ajetomobi to six months imprisonment without an option of fine.
