Nothing in his appearance showed that he was not a woman. In fact, her walking steps, facial look, the wig he was wearing and the bag were undoubtedly feminine. But this man who identified himself as Joy Samuel is actually a man but put on female look to attract men seeking pleasure in women of easy virtue.
The real identity of the fair-complexioned Samuel was unraveled by a resident of Osogbo, capital of Osun state, Bello, who said he had suspected him for some days before he accosted him on Wednesday night at Popo area in Osogbo.
According to Bello, Samuel gave his name as Aishat thinking that Bello was one of his “customers” and would require his “service” that night. Bello, said to be a member of the Vigilante group in Osogbo later discovered that Samuel’s intonation was masculine and therefore raised alarm.
This discovery attracted residents of the area and bystanders who were startled when they saw how Samuel was able to put up his feminine look.
The crowd were said to have dragged him to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun whose palace was a stone-throw to the scene where Samuel was apprehended.
The monarch expressed dismay over the action of Samuel thus advising the people of Osogbo to be vigilant in order not to fall victim of swindlers and evil doers.
After being searched at the palace, his bag was filled with ladies wares. Samuel was later dragged to the office of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps at Oke Ayepe area of Osogbo and handed over to the authority.
According to the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Osun State Command, DSC Babatunde Afolabi, the suspect was arrested around 8:00pm on Wednesday.
A release by Afolabi reads: “During the interrogation, the man turned woman gave his name as Joy Samuel from Benue State, Markurdi Local Government Area. He said that he arrived Osun State around March, this year adding he was brought by a syndicate involved in human trafficking; he gave the name of the leader of the said syndicate as Onifa.
“He (Samuel) said Onifa brought him all the way from Benue to serve as a maid to one aunty Funmi who owns a shop around
Old-Garage, Osogbo. According to him, aunty Funmi had already given his
one year salary to Onifa and that he was expected to work for her a whole year.
“unfortunately for him, aunty Funmi discovered that he is a male and not a female maid. She then chased him from the
accommodation given to him. Joy Samuel said aunty Funmi took him to her house, thus, he only know her in the shop. Joy Samuel confessed to have taken to the trade to deceive unsuspecting public in order to
fend for himself.
“He said the clothing materials he usually used were provided by himself including the wig he wore. Joy Samuel said that he usually parade himself as a woman of easy virtue every evening so that he can be approached by men. He lamented that luck, however, ran out of him when a man carried him along station road for the business of the day and possibly noticed that he actually feigned femininity which led to his arrest.
Meanwhile, the PRO said investigation was on-going to apprehend the said syndicate and those involved.
He then appealed to members of the public to offer useful information that would lead to the arrest of those involved. The corps also warned the public to be wary of the kind of friend they keep and do business with.
