A programme to improve the speaking and writing of Yoruba language among youths and students will start on Monday, 25th August, 2014.
Tagged, Mother Tongue Supports’, the programme is an initiative of Mrs Feyikemi Niyi-Olayinka, Yoruba actress and presenter of popular Yoruba programme on television, Owuro Lawa.
According to Feyikemi, who also presents another Yoruba programme, Oyinmomo, on DSTV Africa Magic, the programme aimed at improving speaking and writing of Yoruba language among children of ages between four and 11 years of age.
“It is part of the activities of the Mother Tongue Initiative, a non-governmental organisation we established to promote speaking, reading and writing Yoruba Language,” she said.
Feyikemi explained that under the Yoruba Summer Classes for Kids, participants will undergo coaching in speaking, reading and writing Yoruba Language in a relaxed atmosphere for one week.
The coaching exercise will last for one week and venue is the Agidingbi Primary School, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
According to Feyikemi, popularly called Asake for her role in the block-bursting film, Oleku, produced by Tunde Kelani, participants will be coached in Yoruba history, culture and folklore, poems, songs, grammar and phonetics.
“We want to say however, that the programme is available for sponsorship by individuals and corporate organisations,” she said.
