Nda Isaiah’s Arrest Is Muscle-flexing, Arm-twisting Tactics By Fayose, Says APC

The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives of Congress (APC) has described the house arrest clamped on one of its presidential aspirants, Mr. Nda Isaiah on the order of Governor Ayodele Fayose as muscle-flexing and arm-twisting tactics to prove to his Abuja lords that he (Fayose) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have total control of Ekiti.

In a release signed by the APC state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, the party described Fayose as a ‘rough-neck bully’, “who will go the whole hog to prove the point that he is in charge as a governor and he has territorialised the state. We are chronicling all the infractions, not only against Fayose, but against the PDP administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

“Fayose is an incorrigible bully and a fraudulent aberrant. He would do everything to show his Abuja sponsors that he has colonized Ekiti and ready to deliver it to them come 2015 without any let. Otherwise, why should he put a gentleman and polished politician like Nda Isaiah, who has come on a legitimate visit to meet party faithful, under such undue arrest?

According to Olatubosun, “a siege on an APC leader’s lodging by policemen on the alleged order of Governor Ayodele Fayose is a siege on APC as a party and it constituted an unwarranted assault and false arrest to humiliate the frontline presidential aspirant.

This is not only provocative, but an affront and a disgrace to the honour and pride we claim to have in Ekiti”.

Isaiah was put under house arrest at Delight Hotel along Ilawe road, Ado-Ekiti, allegedly on the order of Governor Ayo Fayose for an undisclosed reason, neither was any warrant presented to him.

The publisher of Leadership newspaper was taking a lodging in the hotel while on a visit to Ekiti State to address APC delegates in preparation for the party’s presidential primaries coming up soon.‎

Olatubosun added that though Nda-Isaiah was in the state with few aides and supporters, he was later accused of importing thugs that could not be sighted by those present in the hotel.

“This is another sad commentary on democratic practice by those who have no respect for democratic governance and tolerance for the opposition. Here is a fine gentleman that came to speak with the delegates in preparation for the presidential primaries only for a battery of security agents to storm his hotel to accuse him of importing thugs to the state. We are back to the era of executive lawlessness in Ekiti State. It is sad that our state is back again to the era of one day one trouble where the opposition has no space to breathe.‎ The 19 APC lawmakers are still in hiding after security agents stormed their homes in the night last weekend banging at their doors.

“This was the experience in 2004 when Fayose put a sitting Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; ex- Governors Niyi Adebayo of Ekiti State, Segun Osoba of Ogun State and Chief Bisi Akande; and several other AC leaders under house arrest in Iyin-Ekiti while they were in the town for the funeral of Opeyemi Bamidele’s mother, alleging that they brought thugs to Ekiti for a bye-election that was a month away.”

Olatubosun urged the police authorities to call their officers and men to order, saying unleashing the police on the opposition in a democracy is an act capable of instigating anarchy.‎ He also urged the governor to spare Ekiti people the embarrassment he is unleashing on the people to enable them keep their integrity of decency and accommodation.
