Ekiti State Government has called on communities that have reservations against the siting of the headquarters of the proposed Local Council Development Area (LCDAs) to properly present their position during the referendum that is required to complete the process of creating the LCDAs.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ganiyu Owolabi, stressed that government’s decision was based on the yearnings of the people and determination to rapidly develop the grassroots.
According to him, the committee set up by the state government to look into the issue of creation of LCDAs recommended the creation of the proposed 18 LCDAs after considering the memoranda received from 72 communities.
The SSG emphasized that the choice of the LCDA headquarters were the consensus of stakeholders, stressing that government did not impose any decision on any of the areas.
Urging all stakeholders to remain calm and law abiding, Dr. Owolabi assured that government has set in motion the process for the referendum as stipulated by the Nigerian constitution, adding that the gesture would also ensure a true consensus.
