The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife chapter of the Federation of Igbo Students (FIS), has elected a new set of executives for the 2014/2015 academic session.
The executives were sworn-in on Sunday, 9th August, 2015 by the chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Emmanuel Ezeigwe on campus.
The new president of the Igbo Association who emerged unopposed is, Mr. Ikenna Ngwu, he hails from Enugu state.
Other officers of the executive council of FIS are: Vice president, Miss Juliet Obi, General Secretary, Mr. Muoghalu Emmanuel.
Others are assistant general secretary, Mr. Nwaobi Dianne; Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nkwocha Kennedy, among others.
While administering their oath of office during inauguration, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Mr. Ezeigwe Emmanuel charged the newly elected officers to be up and doing in their respective positions.
Speaking, the Staff Adviser of the Igbo association in the university, Engineer S. U Ezekpo congratulated the new executives urging them not to allow their academics to be affected negatively even as they strive to develop the association.
The lecturer said “I congratulate you (elected officers) for this desire and readiness to serve the entire Igbo students on this campus, I pray your tenure would be fruitful. As you make efforts to try to deliver your aims in offices, do not neglect your studies which is your primary aim of coming to the university.”
Ezekpo who urged the Igbo students to support their executives asked the latter to be of good conducts in the discharge of their constitutional duties. “Remember the son of whom you are,” the don added.
Delivering his inauguration, the FIS president promised to work with other executives to move the Igbo association forward.
Ngwu then urged members of the association to support the executives in achieving their manifestoe.
