Obanikoro Accusses APC Of Mobilising People From Lagos

The Minister of State of Defense, Senator Musliu Obanikoro, yesterday alleged that the All Progressives Congress are mobilising people from Lagos to Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship poll.

Addressing news conference in Osogbo, Obanikoro further alleged that those being “imported from Lagos” would be coming from Alimoso Local Government Area.

He said: “The people of Osun State should resist this invasion and we will support them to ensure that they did not succeed in achieving this.

“There was no multiple voting, no ballot snatching. The military helped the process. On the constitutionality of military presence. Osun is bigger than Ekiti, that is why the presence will be more. Their moving people to Osun is dangerous to democracy, they should leave the people of Osun to make their choice freely and it is my responsibility to secure the people, not to give advantage to the PDP but to the people of Osun.

“The President wants one man one vote and it is the duty of some of us to ensure that is made possible”

A former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Chief Akin Osuntokun, another Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, like Obanikoro said there was contradiction in the APC’s claim on the presence of the military in elections.

According to him: “With the military presence people still came out en masse. If you were the President would you take chances in the face of security threat of Boko Haram and  the violent history of past election. They will speaking from the two sides of their mouth. They would be the ones to blaim the president should anything on toward happen”

But the denied the allegation, saying the PDP and Obanikoro are only looking for ways to use the security agents to unleash terror on the people of the state, particularly the APC supporters.

Spokesman of the party in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatimi, said: “The security forces appear to have intensified their harassment of Osun citizens by interfering with movement of people in our cities and towns, and arresting targeted individuals including Hon. Yemi Oke, a leader of APC in Obokun Local Governmenet .

“Early Monday morning, they created panic through rigorous searches in Osogbo and Ilesa, causing traffic to crawl for hours before relenting as the afternoon approached. Convoys of strange-looking people believed to be militants from Bayelsa and other Niger Delta States have been moving in and out of Ilesa escorted by branded vehicles of Omisore campaign organisation.

“Speculation is rife that the security services may be rehearsing a lock-down of Osogbo and other cities on Tuesday (today) in what we have been informed is a desperate bid to whittle down the numbers of supporters expected at the final mega rally of the APC.”

Also, the APC alleged that the PDP will use the security forces on Thursday to cause mayhem in Ede and Ilesa.

“There is therefore no excuse today (Tuesday) to have any reason whatsoever to disturb APC’s rally under the pretest of security concerns. If it does, it will lose public confidence as a national institution designed to mainitain peace and protect citizens, the APC said.
