Ogun APC to challenge Kashamu’s victory in court

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC),on Monday, said it will contest the outcome of last Saturday’s National Assembly election in Ogun East senatorial district.

Addressing newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta, the deputy director, Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation of APC, Chief Bisi Adegbuyi, said the elections were marred with gross irregularities in the district.

Adegbuyi, flanked by the state party chairman, Alhaji Roqeeb Adeniji and other leaders and chieftains from the senatorial district, argued that the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not reflect the wishes of the people of the district.

He, therefore, said the party rejected the entire National Assembly elections in the two federal constituencies won by the PDP in Remo and Ijebu North-Ijebu-East-Ogun Waterside candidates, Honourable Ladi Adebutu and Mr Segun Adekoya.

It said the results announced by the electoral body was pre-determined, manipulated and massively rigged.

Adegbuyi said, “we want the entire world to know that the results as announced by INEC reflect pre-determined, manipulated and fictitious figures forged by a rigging machinery of the PDP, led by its senatorial candidate, Mr Buruji Kashamu.”

In his reaction, the senator-elect, Kashamu, in a statement by his Media Assistant, Austin Oniyokor, described the allegation of the APC as unfounded even as he advised the party to seek redress at the Tribunal for its complaints.

The statement said: “The claims by the APC are totally unfounded. Ordinarily, we would not have dignified them with a response. You can see that the statement is loud in noise and lacking in substance. If they say there was rigging, intimidation and manipulation during the election, they should supply the details, rather than hiding under some nebulous excuses that say nothing.

“At any rate, the Electoral Act has made provision for the ventilation of issues arising from an election. They should go to the tribunal to prove their case.’’

“We will meet them there. If they say we rigged the only senatorial district that we won fair and square, it is also safe to say that they also rigged Ogun West and Ogun Central senatorial districts. Where did they get the over 100,000 votes that they posted for their candidate in Ogun Central and the outrageous figure for their candidate in Ogun West? We believe that the party will speak better on these issues at the appropriate time,” he said.
