Chelsea youngster, OlaOluwa Aina and Turkey based Mikel Agu were the casualties as Super Eagles coach, Gernet Rohr released the names of the final 23 players that will fly the nation’s flag at the World Cup kicking off in Russia next week.
Rohr released the names of the selected players early Sunday morning. However, thegazellenews can reveal that the two dropped players will travel with the team as standby in case of injury to any of the selected players.
While both Aina and Agu were dropped, new boy and Crotone of Italy striker, Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwakwo was selected while recuperating Leicester of England midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi and Torino of Italy midfielder, Joel Obi who returned to the national team after a four year absence were selected.
The team consist of three goalkeepers: Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Daniel Akpeyi and Francis Uzoho; eight defenders: Leon Balogun, Williams Troost-Ekong, Keneth Omeruo, Shehu Abdullahi, Elderson Echiejile, Brian Idowu, Chigozie Agwem and Tyronne Ebuehi; six midfielders: John Mikel Obi, Joel Obi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Wilfred Ndidi, John Ogu and Ogeyi Onazi; and six strikers: Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi, Odion Ighalo, Victor Moses, Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwankwo and Ahmed Musa.
