The Osun State Police Command on Tuesday, 15th July, 2014, arrested seven hoodlums at Ilesa ahead of the August 9 governorship election in the state.
Our correspondent learnt that the suspected political thugs were allegedly arrested with five single barrel guns and axe inside a bus at Ilesa.
Though the mission of the arrested suspects was still being investigated, it was gathered that the suspects were being detained at the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Osogbo.
The vehicle and the weapons found on the hoodlums were said to have been impounded by the police authorities.
Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state command, Mrs Folasade Odoro, confirmed the arrest saying “seven suspected thugs were arrested by the police in Ilesa on Tuesday, 15th July, 2015”.
According to the PPRO, “They were arrested in Ilesa. They suspects were arrested with dangerous weapons .We are investigating to know who they really are”.
The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, when contacted, said that the party knew nothing about those arrested.
But the chairman of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to investigate those arrested.
