All is not well with the political atmosphere in Osun state. This is as a result of the recent attack carried out by some political thugs in the state.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state had alleged that some thugs belonging to the major opposition party in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shot some APC members during a campaign at the weekend.
APC however petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Marafa asking the police boss to investigate the shooting carried out in Obokun local government area of the state, venue of the campaign.
The petition signed by counsel to APC, Abdul Rasaq Adeoye urged the police to investigate the attack on the campaign that was attended by the state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola among other political bigwigs of the party.
Adeoye who said the campaign was distrupted while many sustained severe injuries said the party is confident on police’s competence in ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to book to serve as deterrent to others.
Addressing a press conference over the matter, APC leader in Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Mrs Dupe-Ajayi Gbadebo told journalists that one of the members of the party who was shot during the attack, Agunbiade Bukola is in a critical condition at the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.
Dupe-Ajayi alleged that the attackers carried out the attack on the order of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Osun East
Senatorial District, Prince Francis Fadahunsi.
The APC chieftain said members of the party were able to identify the attackers and gave the names of Oguntade Blessing, Semiu Lamidi, Abiodun Fayawo and one Kazeem as the perpetrators.
According to Dupe-Ajayi, “We had set up our podium for the campaign and we moved to the street to welcome the governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola befpre some PDP thugs stormed the venue, shooting our members and disrupting the event. These thugs were sponsored by Prince Francis Fadahunsi who wants to be a senator by all means.
“Prince Fadahunsi had earlier issued an ultimatum to our people that anybody that would not vote for him must vacate this town. We need protection and that is why we are calling on the police and other security agencies to do their job”.
Reaction to the allegation, the PDP candidate, Prince Fadahunsi, debunked it accusing APC thugs of using the cover of the governor to unleash violence on PDP members in the area.
Fadahunsi spoke through the spokesperson of his campaign organisation, Mr. Sola Olowoye insisting that he did not sponsor the attack on APC members.
He added that the APC was seeking to cause trouble in the town because they are aware that their party is not popular in the area.
