Osun Deputy ‪Gov Counsels Parents On Children Welfare, Distributes Free Uniforms

By Timothy Agbor, Osogbo

Parents and guardians have been advised to always attend to the welfare of their children by ensuring that their wards attend school in neat and smart school uniforms.

Osun State Deputy Governor and state Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Grace Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, gave this advice on Wednesday, 25th June, 2014 after she distributed new school uniforms to indigent pupils in public elementary and middle schools in Osogbo and Olorunda Local Government Areas of the state.‬

According to her, parents and guardians should also make sure that their wards attend school with necessary writing materials in order to give them right sense of belonging with their mates so as not to hamper their learning ability which might be caused by lack of basic learning materials.‬

‪Mrs. Laoye-Tomori, who described the distribution of the new school uniforms as her personal contribution towards the enhancement of the educational policy of the present administration in the state and a quick intervention to reducing burden of parents who could not afford financial cost of replacing their wards’ tattered school uniforms with new ones, said the distribution was targeted at pupils from poor homes.‬

‪The state Deputy Governor said the move became imperative to her so as to save the affected pupils from unusual embarrassment they might be exposed to from their mates adding that the motive behind the move was to complement efforts of the state government which had distributed over 750,000 school uniforms to pupils of public elementary, middle and high schools in the state.‬

‪She said the gesture was devoid of any political, ethnic or religious affiliation stressing that it was aimed at sustaining the progress of the state academically.‬

The pupils who benefited from the gesture could not hide their joy when adorned with their new uniforms.‬

‪About 150 elementary and middle school uniforms together with numerous 60- leaf exercise books were distributed during the exercise.
