Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs Grace Titi-Laoye Tomori on Wednesday, 13th August, 2014, debunked the allegation by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 9th August, 2014 governorship election in the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, that she was arrested for carrying ammunitions and distributing a sum of N20million on election day.
Apparently reacting to the claim by Senator Omisore during an interview aired on one television station that Mrs. Laoye-Tomori was arrested, a statement issued and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mr. Tope Ademakinwa, said that the allegation was a lie and aimed to cause confusion and disaffection against the person of the Deputy Governor.
The statement also denied that the Deputy Governor was arrested for distributing money on the election day adding that instead, Mrs. Laoye-Tomori was at the police station to secure the release of some APC chieftains who were arrested by soldiers and security operatives over spurious allegations.
The statement read, “our attention has been drawn to a malicious interview purportedly granted by the defeated PDP gubernatorial flag bearer, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
“In the interview, Omisore, in a desperate bid to grab political power at all cost, connived with himself, and concocted a lie of a ‘phantom’ arrest of the Deputy Governor of the State of Osun, Iyaafin Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori, by the officers of the Nigeria Police for carrying ammunitions and N20 million on election day.
“In Iyiola Omisore’s little mind, this lie is supposed to cause confusion and disaffection against the person of the Deputy Governor, Iyaafin Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori; but alas!, the mission failed, and miserably so.
“To put the records straight; the Deputy Governor, Iyaafin Laoye-Tomori never distributed money or carried any ammunition at any time, and so, was never arrested. Instead, scores of APC stalwarts, members of the House of Representative and aides to both the Deputy Governor and Mr Governor were arrested and detained by the Police, claiming ‘order from above’.
“The Deputy Governor was contacted that her P.A. was arrested and she went to the Office of the state Commissioner of Police to secure the release of all politicians arrested including her P.A. She was never arrested or caught with ammunition.
The Deputy Governor is a woman of honour and integrity, respected by all.
“That Omisore resorted to character assassination may not be much of a surprise, after all, he is a pathological liar. The public must recall that he recently appeared on air in one of the nation’s respected television station, only to say that ‘all the rice in Osun are APC rices! The masses know better.
“This mischievous interview represents an ‘all-time low’ in the annals of Omisore’s political misadventure. For now, he comfortably sits in the company of frustrated political bigwigs, moaning the fact that his future is behind him. We have decided to rebuff Omisore’s lie to set the records straight and remedy his malicious misinformation, which is capable of causing disaffection among the good people of Osun.”
