A filling station situated at the junction of the Osun state Polytechnic, Iree in Boluwaduro Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, April 28, 2016 wen up in flames.
The filling station, Amolek, started burning after a petrol filled tanker got exploded while off-loading fuel into the filling station’s underground tank.
An eye witness who spoke with our correspondent said the incident that happened in the evening of the faithful day threw the entire community into panic.
The residents of the town feared that the fire may extend to the residential buildings that are not far to the filling station as people vacated their houses.
While expressing fear over the location of the filling station in the residential area, the eye witness said motorist and other petrol consumers who had waited around the station to purchase fuel scampered for safety on sighting the fire.
A resident of the area told our correspondent on the telephone that no life was lost to the fire adding that the tanker was completely burnt.
The driver of the tanker was said to have narrowly escaped death when the tanker was engulfed in fire.
The burning tanker was said to have extended to the filling station and razed it.
Fire fighters, who were said to have arrived the scene some minutes after the fire struck made frantic efforts to put it off as the fire kept raging.
The occurrence which attracted a huge crowd to the scene left residents wondering on what could have caused the tanker’s explosion.
As at the time of filing this report, he fire was yet to be put off completely.
