A governorship aspirant under the umbrella of Labour Party (LP) in Osun state, Alahji Fatai Akinbade on Thursday, 8th May, 2014 urged electorate in the state not to succumb to any financial inducement to sell their voters’ cards.
Akinbade stated this in Osogbo at the official declaration of his intention to contest the August 9th, 2014 governorship election in the State.
He told voters in the state that selling their cards to political moneybags in the governorship race would make them suffer for another four years.
Addressing a mammoth crowd who defied rain at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, the venue of the declaration, Akinbade said: “Please do not sell your votes and conscience, anybody who votes for a wrong candidate because of financial inducement would be selling not only his or her tomorrow, conscience and right, but also the future of Osun State and generations yet unborn in our great state.
“I appeal to all my political associates, who might have been swayed or disappointed by this false propaganda to return to our fold of like minded politicians on a rescue mission and join hands with me and the Labour Party to bring about a new dawn in Osun State”.
The aspirant said that his intention to contest the upcoming governorship poll on the platform of LP was to harness the vast and limitless resources in the state, adding that his leadership would be inspired by patriotic initiatives if voted as the governor.
Akinbade stressed that having been in government in the State for the past two decades, he has the experience in moving to break the vicious cycle of under development which past administrations have plunged the state into.
“As an experienced technocrat who has served the state meritoriously in several capacities, I am deeply committed to ensuring that we make true progress by breaking the brutal cycle of exploitation and exportation of the resources of our state to other states through various dubious means in the past few years.”, Akindade stated.
He then assured the people of the state that if they vote enmass for Labour Party in the coming election, his administration will be guided by thorough knowledge of the people of the state and its economy, stressing that his government would consolidate on those achievements recorded under the administration of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
He added: “We intend to forge strategic partnerships that would utilise our resources largely for the benefit of the people of Osun State. We will stop the disturbing trend of capital flight from our dear state. We will not fail and our success will be your success, the state`s economy will grow in a secured environment as you partner with Labour Party”
Akinbade urged his supporters not to listen to rumour being spread by his political opponents that Labour Party will disallow him from using its platform for the August 9 election in the state, saying this was the imagination and wicked propaganda of people being threatened by his grassroot appeal.
“This must be actively discountenanced. I have also heard the propaganda that Fatai Akinbade is not wealthy to be able to execute a governorship election, you people of Osun State are my people. All my associates and supporters should be wary of politicians who believe in circumventing the political process through financial inducements as their major goal would be how to recoup their investment if they get into power”.
