Osun Governorship Poll: Eligible Voters Will Not Be Disenfranchised- INEC

By Timothy Agbor, Osogbo

Eleven days to the Osun state governorship election slated for August 9, 2014 the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state has assured that electorate will not be disallowed to exercise their franchise in the forthcoming poll.

The Commission in a release issued on Tuesday, 29th July, 2014 and signed by the Chief Public Relations Officer of the INEC, Mrs. Adenike Tadese, on behalf of the INEC Residential Electoral Commissioner (REC), Olusegun Agbaje in the state debunked the reports in the media that it is hoarding Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to disenfranchise eligible voters from participating in the poll.

The REC however reinstated the electoral body’s commitment to conduct free, fair, credible and acceptable election disclosing that adequate and sufficient provisions have been put in place in terms of deployment of  electoral materials to cover all 3,010 polling units in the state on the election day.

To achieve this goal to its full, the state INEC boss charged eligible voters who have registered but yet to collect their PVCs to do so at the commission’s Local Government Offices in the state saying that deadline for collection is 4th of August.

The statement reads: “The Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State wishes to assure the good people of the state that the commission will not disenfranchise eligible voters irrespective of party affiliation from exercising their franchise in the forthcoming August 9th, 2014 gubernatorial election.

“This release has become imperative to clear the allegation and misinformation currently in circulation to under-supply electoral materials to some areas during election.

“INEC wishes to reiterate that adequate and sufficient provisions have been put in place in terms of deployment of electoral materials to cover all 3, 010 polling units in the state on the election day.

“Collection of Permanent Voters Card is an ongoing exercise, those who are yet to collect their cards should avail themselves the opportunity to collect their PVCs at INEC local government offices; deadline for collection is 4th August, 2014.”
