Students of all tertiary institutions in Osun State under the aegis of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) Osun axis have endorsed Governor Rauf Aregbesola for a second term in office.
The students at a rally held in Osogbo on Monday, 4th August, 2014, said they passed the vote of confidence Governor Aregbesola, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s election because of his numerous achievements since he took the mantle of leadership in the state.
The students who are indigenes of Osun State are from: Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife; College of Education, Ila-Orangun; College of Education, Ilesa; Osun State Polytechnic, Iree; Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke; Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo; and Federal Polytechnic, Ede.
The Chairman of NANS in the state, Samuel Awowole, who addressed the students at the rally maintained that no students’ group in the state had endorsed any other candidate, saying Aregbesola is the choice of the students of Osun state.
He cited the achievements of the Aregbesola led administration in the education sector, which he said placed him above other contenders in the state thus necessitating the support.
The students leader said Aregbesola scored above every other contestants in the rating of the students, saying that the Governor deserves a second term.
He urged all the students and their parents to support Aregbesola in his desire to rule the state for the second term.
Awowole who cautioned the students against “stomach infrastructure” hinted that the state government has committed more resources into the education sector more than any previous administration in the state.
The students also warned politicians against violence during the poll stressing that the 2007 post election crisis in the state should not repeat itself.
A statement issued by the students’ body reads: “The peace, progress and tranquility that we all desire must not be attacked. Youths, students and the entire citizenry of the state are hereby called upon to take their destinies in their hands. They should defend their social, physical, and political rights and securit by “any means necessary” especially by our mass unity and resolve.
“Politicians should not force the people to dialogue. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must not support any of the parties but should act according to the dictates of the electoral laws.
“We implore Osun people to vote without fear or favour. Osun people should use this electoral chancve to think thoroughly about tomorrow and only vote for candidate that can, at least guarantee an enduring future.”
