Alliance of Progressive Youths (APY) has called on President Goodluck Jonathan and his cohorts to refrain from rigging Osun governorship election as any attempt in this regards will lead to serious uproar that will consume himself and his government.
The group also stressed that the on-going insurgency in some northern states of the country ought to have given concern to a responsive and responsible government.
The group, at a press conference in Osogbo addressed by the Chairman of its Coordinating Council, Comrade Ayeni Oluwaseun, on Saturday, 26th July, 2014, stated that the orchestrated plan to arrest the leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) and to assassinate its governorship candidate, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, before the election day is an eye opener that has challenged APY and the youths of Osun State to be prepared for the 9th August, 2014 election.
“This is a challenge we shall face and as usual the people will win. We will not stay aloof and allow a thug or people with no value, dignity and credibility be foisted on our people in Osun, no not in the southwest region.
“APY, having diagnosed and evaluated the potentials, attributes, character and records of performance of the candidates competing in the election, APY found out that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is above all and the only candidate who can genuinely stand not only with Osun people but also with the youths at this difficult time in the history of Nigeria,” Oluwaseun said.
The group reiterated that the 9th August, 2014 election is about human pride, “because we realised that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola success can be attributed to the following life touching project points which are basically the path he signed with the youths in the State of Osun.
“For initiating the first of its kind which has received accolades and awards from local and international organisations, Opon-Imo.
“For managing the feeding of students which informed the invitation by the Parliament of the United Kingdom to speak on the project.
“For being adjudged as the most prudent and highest employer of labour by Bureau of Statistics, a federal government agency.
“For providing new set of branded vehicles for all tertiary institutions in the state of Osun.
“For doing a lot of infrastructure renewal in Osun and his genuine concern for the welfare of the youths.
“For initiating a special programme of O-YES and several others that have employed more than 40,000 youths or thereabout and also creating other regular employment for several Osun indigenes and residents, we are staying solidly behind Ogbeni Aregbesola and supporting him to win this election”.
While urging Osun people to defend their votes, APY also warned the Jonathan led administration of the dire consequence of attempting to rig the Osun governorship election.
