Oyetola Reiterates Commitment To Improved Health Care For citizens

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the heatlh and general well-being of people of the State.

This is just as the Governor disclosed that Osun was yet to receive any financial support from any quarter for the management of Covid-19.

Oyetola, who spoke on Tuesday, 21 July, 2020 while receiving donation of some personal protective tools from Fidelity Bank in his office at the Government Secretariat, Abeere Osogbo, said the State still retains its status as one of the top three states in Nigeria with the best facilities to combat the pandemic.

The Governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Public Health, Dr. Siji Olamiju, maintained that the State government had been proactive enough to foresee such a global health emergency as Covid-19 by deploying resources to equip the primary and secondary health care facilities in the State.

The Governor said: “Osun is one of the first five states, number 3 to be specific, ranked to have the best preparation to tackle COVID-19. We have 350 isolation beds spread across different locations in the State.

“From inception of our administration. We have embarked on rehabilitation, renovation and revitalization of over 300 Primary Healthcare Centers, one per ward, across the state with 256 already completed. We regularly purchase drugs for these PHCs and equip them with medical and para-medical personnel and necessary equipment.

“Our administration engages in periodic free medical operation for citizens and has also committed resources for health insurance. We have also approved consolidated salary scale for our doctors and nurses. All these including rehabilitation of three general hospitals across the three senatorial zones, fully equipped long before Covid-19 pandemic broke out, show we have foresight.

“Efforts of the administration at revamping the health sector has assisted in increasing enrollment index capacity of our nursing school from 30 to 75 students.”

Speaking on the donation by the management of Fidelity Bank, Olamiji said “we can’t thank Fidelity Bank enough for this gesture. We value the donation and appreciate the support.”

Earlier in his remark, the Regional Head Southwest 2 of Fidelity Bank, Mr Wale Mesioye, commended the Governor for his proactive approach at curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the State, adding that none of the bank’s staff had tested positive to Covid-19 across all its branches in the State owing to the laudable efforts of the government.

He added that the bank had witnessed tremendous improvement in the level of patronage since Oyetola became the Governor, a development he maintained was a result of the people-oriented programmes and policies of the current administration in the State.

Also present at the occasion were the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal and the Incident Manager, Covid-19, Osun and Acting Medical Director of Ladoke Akintola University Technology Teaching Hospital, Prof Peter Olaitan among others.
